Abstract

|
Adequate soft tissue reconstruction is necessary after wide resection of sacral tumor involving soft tissue like gluteal muscles locating posterior to sacrum. We present a case of chordoma involving gluteus maximus, piriformis and subcutaneous fat posteriorly and protruding mass displacing rectum anteriorly, which was treated by wide sacral resection through the anterior and posterior approach, and reconstruction with transpelvic rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap. The patient was satisfied with near normal bladder and anorectal function, even though 3, 4, 5th. sacral nerves were resected, and no wound complications, no local recurrence and no metastasis in two years follow up.
